Winter / Spring
Winter and early spring is a special time to visit the Wells, Barkerville, Bowron Lakes area. We usually get between 18 and 25 feet of fluffy snow during an average winter, with beautiful sunny days and amazing starry nights. Northern lights flicker along the horizon.
You can cross-country ski, snowshoe, dogsled, snowmobile, backcountry ski or snowboard in the pristine backcountry and then retire back to your accommodation, or head to a local pub or restaurant for a night on the town.
Snowmobiling
By using the specially designated snowmobile corridor through the community snowmobilers can gas-up and reach their accommodation without having to load up their snowmobiles. Riding opportunities include hill climbing at Mt. Agnes, alpine riding at Bald Mountain or Yanks Peak and trail touring from Prince George, Likely or Quesnel (snowmobilers should familiarize themselves with local caribou closure areas – we are home to the red-listed mountain caribou.)
Trails are groomed on a regular basis and trail passes are available at local outlets in Wells as well as at a specially designed snowmobiler check-in near the entrance of Wells. For more information, including up to date snow conditions be sure to check out the Wells Snowmobile Club website.
